Had some much needed hang time with extended fam down south.

Don’t let “versatility” become a crutch.

Sometimes my voice feels like a cat who’s lived 9 or 10 lives with all of the different genres I’ve performed. And all of them served their purpose in those specific seasons.

Getting laser detailed has actually opened up doors for me and helped me exercise WHAT I want to do on stage WHEN I sing. It’s also helped me easily walk away or say “no” to things that don’t serve me right now as a performing vocalist.

If this is something you want to refine, my Slay The Stage course helps you ask the right questions that’ll help you:

1. Get focused with which stages you want to sing on right now, and

2. HOW you want to show up when you do! 🎤

You know your body SO well - and because of this, you pay close attention to how singing and performing FEEL.

But it can also be confusing, right? Going “full out” in your singing is more about stamina and sustainability. The physical engagement is different - in fact, we’re aiming for “less is more” with your voice.

Learning to trust this takes time. Give yourself grace and follow through the process with your voice professional.

And then, be a cheerleader for the “singers who move” when we need a gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) shove in the right (stage) direction. 😉

Each week I share a performance prompt inside our Passionate Performer membership community. This week, we sang songs that inspire unity.

It’s not lost on me that these lyrics from my bluesy take of Hairspray’s “You Can’t Stop The Beat” can come across overly optimistic in the state of our country right now. It seems like history is, in fact, repeating itself.

But I believe that it’s the artists that provide almost a prophetic voice in these times - speaking truth of what is and what we hope for. 🙏🏼

And it’s that hope that inspires action - action that stands up against injustice.
